The Smoker (Tantrum Desire Remix) / Vengeance [APORN010]
Having spent over 10 years as one of the key players in Drum and Bass’s biggest label Ram Records, and having been instrumental in the labels continuing success, Shimon felt the need for a new challenge and so put his name to a brand new label - Audio Porn. With early releases from leaders of the new school Camo & Krooked, french genre mashing loons Dirtyphonics, as well as drum and bass royalty such as Matrix, MC Tali and Ram Trilogy, Audio Porn has fast become one of the most exciting, and innovative, new labels in dance.
For the labels landmark 10th release, Shimon himself steps up to the plate with a remix of one of his, and the labels biggest tracks to date, ‘The Smoker’, and the all new ‘Vengeance’. This release says everything about Audio Porn and what the label is trying to achieve as a whole; a recipe of incredible production, the biggest names in drum and bass and the freshest most talented new producers all mixed in to create the guaranteed rewind.
SHIMON VS SPARFUNK - THE SMOKER (TANTRUM DESIRE REMIX)
Production team Tantrum Desire burst onto the scene in 2008, signing exclusively to Drumsound & Simon Bassline Smith’s Technique recordings with their subsequent original tracks (such as Freeze, Failure To Engage) and scene stealing remixes (of Bassline Smith’s ‘Cape Fear’ and ‘Welcome To The Jungle’ as well as the recent huge remix of Medicin’s ‘Mobius Strip’ for DJ SS’s Formation) regularly finding their way into the boxes of the DnB A-List such as Grooverider, Jumping Jack Frost, Hype and Ray Keith. In their first outing on Audio Porn, Shimon has lent them the reigns to his huge collaboration with Sparfunk ‘The Smoker’. Keeping the instantly recognisable samples and melody, Tantrum Desire have twisted up the originals electro rolling vibe, adding layers of chest bursting, club ripping bass to produce an absolute club destroyer of the highest order. This is not for the faint hearted or those with a weak disposition.
SHIMON - VENGEANCE
Trends come and go, and DJ’s and producers rise and fall, but one thing is for sure, there are only a handful of producers in Drum and Bass who can lay claim to inventing a beat, and Shimon is one of them. With ‘Bodyrock’ in 2001, Shimon and Andy C unearthed a whole new step for drum and bass, the triplet beat. This one track has since gone on to directly influence the sound of everyone from Pendulum to Sub Focus, Distorted Minds to DJ Fresh. Once again returning to the beat he invented, Shimon has again set a new standard for all those who sought to take off his original style. Bringing the swing beat slamming into 2010, ‘Vengeance’ horror movie intro drops into a true dancefloor grenade, screwface bass rolling around your brain while doom laden sirens signal another dancefloor switched up and slain. Nasty.
DJ support from the usual suspects: Andy C, Futurebound, Dirtyphonics, Loadstar (Xample & Lomax), Drumsound & Bassline Smith, DC Breaks, Disaszt, Camo & Krooked, and many more.
